Are you a television binge-watcher? Ok, who here wants to confess their most awful storyline addictions?
Can you top, Married at First Sight?
Here’s the premise. Strangers agree to become paired with someone they agree to marry, having never met the person before meeting them at the alter.
Seriously.
They are matched by so-called experts (whose track record is dubious at best) and agree not only to marry a stranger but go through a period before, during, and after the marriage hounded by a camera crew recording their every move.
We didn't share our viewing habits with others when we watched the first season or two. It’s one thing to say you’ve watched the entire ‘West Wing’ series six times, but quite another to say in polite company, ‘How about season 11 of Married at First Sight?’ (on Hulu)’
As I read this out loud, Richard points out that we haven’t watched all 11 seasons (yet, I add).
But hey, with everything going on in the world, and from the seasoned vantage point of having a darned good relationship, it’s nice to have a distraction from democracy in peril, a rollback of constitutional rights, and a climate crisis.
Instead of yelling at the talking heads on cable news, we take an occasional break to yell at Katie or Brandon about what jerks they are to their partners in Marriage at First Sight.
Seriously, how are you coping?
A friend just told me her therapist is seeing a sharp spike in calls from new clients because of the despair and hopelessness many are feeling. I don’t doubt it one bit.

Phyl and I are theater junkies and loved watching Schmigadoon (apple TV), a sendup of popular musicals from the 40's - 60's. We are catching up on many series that we missed during our working careers - Downton Abby, Unforgotten, Doc Martin, the new All Creatures Great & Small, Atlantic Crossing, and others from PBS. In addition to many of those mentioned in other comments (Lasso, The Morning Show, Dead to me, Tucci, etc.) last night we started catching up on Harry Potter movies from years past. I like the 'Righteous Gemstones' (HBO) but Phyl ... not so much. Have you seen 'Dickenson' from Apple tv? As to our frame of mind and mental health... let's say that The Serenity Prayer is my most used mantra in these times.
Julie—You must have misheard me. I didn’t say that Marriage at First Sight show was binge-worthy, I said it was cringe-worthy.
