I should add that I don’t want to see Nikki Haley win the nomination either. There isn’t a single Republican candidate this year that I could conscientiously support . I only chose to cast my caucus vote for her to pull votes from Trump.
I attended a Republican caucus tonight by registering at the door. Tomorrow I will re-register as a Democrat. I thought about this long and hard. It felt disingenuous and sneaky to go to the opposing team’s caucus. Then I realized that I have a legitimate stake in who they put forth as their candidate. With Trump we are headed to disaster. If there was anything I could do to help stop him, then I needed to do it. The most awkward part was that there were video cameras everywhere. I covered my face as best I could because I was embarrassed to be there among people who think Donald Trump is a god. I’m glad we went, though we didn’t tip the scales; Nikki Haley beat Trump in our precinct caucus without needing our two votes.
It was a curious experience. A young Black woman in Trump regalia extolled his supposed virtues while claiming that “the other side” is “taking away our rights.“ This on Martin Luther King Junior‘s birthday. I am shaking my head. After the pledge to the flag, this young woman opened the caucus with a prayer that God would help people “vote correctly.“ It is hard for me to imagine a God who would want anyone to vote for such an evil human being.
Wait a minute, I thought you had to be registered as a Republican to Caucus with the GOP tonight. The only reason I am STILL a Republican is to take a stand against Orange colored maelstrom, if you know what I mean.

You have to be a registered R or D to vote in the party caucus, but you can change registration there with I.d,
