Radio talent Maxwell Schaffer talks about life after being fired from WHO radio

...and much more
2

Maxwell Schaeffer is a well-known radio and local theater personality in central Iowa with a career that spans several decades. His longest-running gig was spinning Oldies on Des Moines' KIOA radio station, where he co-hosted the morning show for over 20 years. He later joined WHO Radio, taking over the morning show in 2021 with co-host Amy Sweet after the retirement of long-time hosts Van Harden and Bonnie Lucas. Schaeffer is also a member of the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and has been actively involved in the local music and theatre scenes.

In March 2024, Schaeffer and Sweet were ousted from WHO Radio due to changes in the station’s programming direction under iHeartMedia. We talked about the day he was dismissed and the radio business in general and discussed what might be next.

It was a fun and lively interview, thanks to our special guest and the readers who asked questions.

Have a listen.
