So who paid the deputy with all those big chest boxes for his covering this 'private event' - DeSantis no doubt has his own people who can control his tiny crowds. And the whole idea of our taxpayer funded government wanting to control state employees with knowledge to share and information taxpayers have a right to - is angering as well as frightening. In Marion, KS I hope the 30 media signatories to that letter of protest send reporters and staff to help the paper continue the investigation and put out the papers. More useful than a letter.
Maybe that's why I'm having trouble getting interviews with ISU veterinarians. I only had some very simple questions, but none of the community practice veterinarians would talk. I did finally speak with an oncologist and a primary veterinarian in TX and I'm now finishing my article, but I've never had this much trouble finding someone to interview before.
And we live where?!!! People need to wake up and decide if their tax cuts are worth all of this kind of dangerous behavior happening to our fellow citizens. People who are simply doing their jobs. I am afraid that if this keeps up Iowa will become a ghost state with fewer and fewer professionals wanting to stick around.
People need to get out and vote. A larger voting participation number is the only defense we have against dark money groups who are flooding Iowa with more money everyday. Free press is the greatest danger there is to these groups. We all need to step up, speak out, and vote. Look at Ohio! Voters ruled!!
Questions to state employees must be submitted in advance?? And we know the Governor and others don’t hold press conferences or return calls from reporters.
They’re all getting pretty comfortable with fascism, aren’t they?
Nor do I. I’m talking about whoever set that “in advance” questions policy the employees are now bound by. It’s not hard to guess where that came from.
Terrific article in the Storm Lake paper!

Who could have predicted that the Iowa Writers’ Collaborative would become the bastion of democracy in our state?
Sounds like censorship.

Indeed! I’m hearing several anecdotal stories about people leaving.
Scary, isn’t it?!
Too. We need to figure this out before it’s too late.

This is outrageous.
And, to have a credentialed reporter denied access to an event he was cleared to attend is chilling.
Turned away by a line of county Sheriff’s officers no less. What a misuse of police power.
I don’t want to throw the state employee under the bus. It’s not his fault.
