Watching this video was not something on my day's agenda. In fact, when I saw the email and video link, my brain said, "You have other things to do than watch this video." However, my curious and lazy self prevailed and I am glad that I did view and listen.

I am not a professional journalist. However, I am a consumer, who appreciates research and factual based writing, as well as perspectives on events, places, and life. The Iowa Writers Collaborative has an important standing in my schedule. This video was worth my time. The panel speakers as well as several people in the audience are people I know from personal contacts, their writing, and presence on the weekly Zoom that Julie coordinates. Yes, she provides many forums for thinking, learning, writing, and discussion.

Thanks to the speakers. I hope to attend the Festival in 2026 and hopefully CSPAN will cover in the near future. One fact, the Cedar Rapids African American Museum owns the Katz lunch counter, I do not know if it is one display now but it was in the past. If you have never visited this Iowa treasure, it is well worth a visit. The museum has recently been remodeled.

Lastly, I want to add that today I attended a townhall in Iowa City that Congresswoman Miller-Meeks was invited (no show). It was scheduled at the Iowa City Public Library. 30-minutes prior to the start time the room was full so the event was moved to the Ped Mall. People from all ages stood in the chill. I listened to many comments about why people were there. Sometimes I pretend to be a journalist and ask questions (a nurse behavior that comes from interviewing patients). The answers to my questions were varied, but everyone indicated that the world is upside down and the administration is creating continual chaos. So I look forward to Sunday's Iowa Writer Collaborative's compilation to help me go forth despite the the upside down state of Iowa and the USA.
