I read that some republican senators are saying that impeachment in the constitution is only for the removal from office of the Official in question. And since Trump is not in office, he can’t be impeached. But that is not so! Article 1 section 3 says “judgment in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from office, AND DISQUALIFICATION TO HOLD AND ENJOY ANY OFFICE OF HONOR, TRUST OR PROFIT UNDER THE UNITED STATES...” So Julie you are correct, he will run again because of this verdict.
The issue here is the word "AND." It isn't "OR" disqualification... That is how those Republicans are reading and interpreting the Constitution. Many of them - including McConnell - say they believe Trump is responsible, but there is a big difference in usage and meaning between "And" and "Or." And they believed their duty was to interpret the Constitution as written. Just like almost all of Congress believed their duty was to uphold the results of the election.
Thanks for again for putting words to my feelings. When will you compile a book?
Thanks, Gayle. How are you? Are you in Wisconsin?
I'm good! In WI anxious to get my second shot this week. No traveling for the past year.
I thought this was a well thought out discussion of the Trump phenomenon informed by the case presented by the trial managers.

Jane, I searched for your name in my subscriber list and couldn't find it. You might have noticed I deleted a longer post from you.
One of the reasons I chose this Substack format was to be able to manage the dialogue. Anonymous comments tend to lead to uncivil discourse.

I hope you understand.
Thanks for weighing in!
Expected, but sickenly sad.
No surprise at outcome; still, such an incredible disappointment.
I tell Trrumpers that history will be the judge, and it won't be kind.
