The sadness continues, the horror continues, the absolute spinelessness of the Congress continues. Thoughts and prayers are not enough. As President Biden said today, this is not a partisan issue, it is an American issue. Do our representatives have the courage to see it as an American issue? My “thoughts and prayers” are now and have always been focused on that. Please, God, guide our representatives to a day when our children will not have to practice active shooter drills in their schools, to a day when people can go to a movie, a concert, a grocery store and not have to fear or even think about being gunned down. We the people are better than this; we need representatives who will reflect these ideals in Congress.
For me it's sadness after sadness. The first is the horror of the event itself, the second the absolute nonsense and stupidity of those who would justify the status quo.
As I was reading through the first few articles about the shootings and deaths in Boulder ( where my two children were born) I had to skim over a pop up ad for one of those T-Shirts with the "take my gun from my cold dead hands" emblazoned on it. Now thats marketing!
Indeed! No more “thoughts and prayers.” No more subterfuge about mental health services.
A local politician recently crowed about making concealment of weapons easier and quoted 18th century founding fathers, who could have never conceived of current assault weaponry. No more quoting 18th century politicians unless limiting to 18 century weaponry!
If we were a rational and intelligent society, we would start by repealing the Second Amendment and then devising licensing plans for simple hunting and maybe basic self defense.
But having neither illusions nor patience with cognitive incapability, I can only sadly anticipate more needless deaths.
How many more mass killings with firearms do we need to feel the need for better gun control legislation? The time is opportune for a serious legislative effort. May the new congress not fumble this opportunity.
I still miss Gordon Gammack

Yes, I wrote all my congressmen and women yesterday. It is so sad. Gordon Gammack and I agree and want it to end ASAP.

Do we really believe the Framers of the Constitution had this kind of gun access in mind?

"Can we please make it as hard to acquire weapons of mass destruction as it is to vote?" Touché!!
