Thank you for sharing Kathi. So relieved to know you and Larry are safe. So much loss, heartbreak, trauma. As you said —people will show support and be generous.
The writing was clear, emotional, inspirational in the midst of devastation. Your reminder about courage, community, family, grief, sadness, anger, and regeneration. is valuable to all of us. A historical writing to be kept and treasured.
This was a beautifully written piece, Kathi. It captured the pathos of the residents of Maui and the heroism of people fighting the fires. Very well done.
Excellent insights by an Iowan-on-the-scene of a major news event. In fact, I learned more from Kathi’s story from Hawaii than from all the network & wire service stories I’ve seen/heard.
Thanks, Chuck. There is something very special about these Islands. They are one of the remote places on Earth and when disaster strikes it is the Ohana who steps forward first to help. The Ohana will always be there to help.
Thanks for writing this, Kathi. Such a sad situation in Maui along a coast where so many have sought serenity. I’ve been in contact this week with a cousin in Kihei; he’s safe but knows many people who lost everything.
What is happening in Maui is so sad. I am glad your cousin is safe. I am sure this is very difficult for him and all of the people who escaped to have so many friends who lost everything. It is going to be a long time before peace returns to Maui.
Thanks, Bob. Life will never be the same on Maui, but the people will rally and rise again. It is the Hawaiian Way.
So powerful. Thank you. My heart aches.

Thank you, Jeanne. Continue to pray for the people on Maui. Everything they know has changed.
