This will only continue because they *are* special in their eyes. Their movement, focused around the Christian Nationalists, but also used as cover by many of the private equity and billionaire bros, is animated by a belief that they are better than the rest of us, and so, are more deserving of the limited resources in a linear world, where every time a decision is made to let one person have access to something, another is automatically denied access to that, whether it is clean water or abortion.

This SCOTUS has been infiltrated with 6 hired assassins, put there by the cabal who have been playing the long game of occupying this nation, one move at a time, ever since it was apparent that Naziism in Germany wasn't going to work. Joseph McCarthy was a warm up at the batter's box for the thinking that never went away at the end of WWII.

And what animates their hauteur that the rest of us do not deserve what they increasingly make available to fewer and fewer of us, is their thinking they are more special than anyone else.

So, get used to it. They are better than us in their eyes. We deserve to be punished because we are not pure enough for what they clearly deserve due to their beatification.

Barf.

Jill's stories reminded me of one in particular. When I lobbied for Planned Parenthood, I got a call from a long time friend ("Jo") who was not "pro choice". She and her husband owned a small business. One of their top sales people, a man married with 6 children of his own, had an affair with one of the administrative assistants. She thought she was pregnant. Since I knew Jo's feelings about abortion, I started offering suggestions of places she could go for support to have the baby.......and Jo had reasons why none of those would "work". Finally, she said, "No, abortion is the only option." Hmmmm. Pause. Then I said, "Isn't it good that she has the choice." Turned out in the end she wasn't pregnant, but the story has stuck with me for five decades.

I have several similar stories. One of them was high profile, which you might have heard of. I used to cover healthcare on Capitol Hill. Rep. Tim Murphy of PA, a psychologist, was a prominent anti-abortionist, but a leader for mental health rights. Whoops. Got his girlfriend pregnant, insisted she abort, and that was the end of him. What we can probably anticipate going forward is that no one's political career will be killed any longer, because they will all be so deserving of the special treatment, just like they already do with our healthcare.

I wonder what would happen if women starting outing the politicians who are hypocrites?

There is a thread on Twitter now where some have started this (not exclusive to politicians). NAMING names.

Update: I don't know if this is happening elsewhere, but where I live just over the DC line in Montgomery County Maryland, County Executive Marc Elrich just banned county officials from traveling to do business in any state that has "rolled back a woman's right to choose."

Yes, yes, yes. That happened with women journalists who started a google spreadsheet reporting their salaries AND their men colleagues'. And, huh, guess who routinely "earned" more?

I also worked for Planned Parenthood beginning in 1972. I remember many women whom I assisted with referrals to clinics out of state. One in particular stays with me. She was married, in her 30’s ,with adolescent children. Their financial circumstances were meager . She and her husband had gathered the funds for her trip to New York but when she arrived she had a health issue that prevented the abortion from being performed that day. She was told to come back in a week. However, the expenses were too great for her to make a return trip. I’ve thought of her so many times over the years.

That's the whole point = everyone's circumstances ARE different and for that reason everyone should have a right to make decisions about their lives on their own and/or with counsel from others. Thank June for her essay

And the sad thing is there are so many stories like this. Including those of well-known people who say they are opposed to abortion, until their own special circumstances arise.

Well-known, well-connected and with financial or social resources to support them.
