This is so incredibly powerful, Julie. I'm sharing it on my facebook page. It articulated a feeling I have had since the Dobbs decision. Drowning, indeed. Since when did cruelty towards women become a national value? Since when did it become so popular, at least with one political party, to keep a boot on the necks of women?

An apt, sobering comparison!

“Women will die without the right to abortion.” I know this on a personal level. Women should have the right to live. I sincerely hope there are enough Iowans, especially younger people, who understand what is happening to our state and will show up to vote. Thanks for this piece, Julie.

Well done, Julie! The near drowning parallel is powerful. We live in fraught times, and I am grateful that we who fight this battle are many.

Thanks so much, Julie , for this piece, and for all you do to add inspiration to my day. I recently learned about Nicole Loew, who is challenging Amy Sinclair for Iowa Senate District 12. I have made a modest contribution to her campaign and will be contributing more and perhaps volunteering to help, as defeating Amy is something I am most interested in!

Really well said, Julie. The drowning imagery is scary. Glad you made it through that one. We will, too.
