Our Monday Zoom Lunch guest is about as close as we’ll get to have the magic ability to grasp the world economy. Here’s a bit about our speaker, Bob Baur, who offered this succinct bio:
I grew up on a large family farm in NE Madison County, IA. Great-grandfather Stanislaus Baur settled there from Germany in July 1853. Succeeding generations all farmed there and expanded the farm. After graduating in mathematics at Iowa State, I returned to run the farm with several hired workers. The farm is operated by a cousin now, the fifth generation.
In the mid-1980s, I returned to Iowa State part-time and received a Ph.D. in Economics in 1991.
I started as a part-time Economic Analyst for the Equity management team at Principal Financial Group in January 1995. I was asked to go full-time in 1998 or so as Head of Equity Trading. I became Global Head of Trading at Principal Capital Management in about 2001. I moved to Chief Global Economist of Principal Capital Management in about 2008 and retired in January 2021.
