Laura Belin is one of the most astute political analysts in the state. I say that because early on in my career, I was advised never to say ‘never’ and it’s best not to use the word ‘best’ as a descriptive word. There’s almost always someone better.
In the case of Iowa political analysts, I don’t know who that would be regarding understanding the Iowa Legislature and local politics today.
Still, I’ll use the ‘weasel’ words ‘one of the most’ to give you a clue as to the treat you are in for if you like to talk about this stuff.
I booked Belin to be our guest for the Monday following the primary election so she can tell us what REALLY happened last Tuesday.
If you are not already a paid subscriber and want to be a part of the conversation, simply become a paid subscriber to this Potluck column. It entitles you to join in all of our Monday Zoom Lunch conversations. We’ve had three so far (I’ll soon publish a column about this week’s guest, Senator Jackie Smith, D-Sioux City). About 16-18 participants show up and ask great questions. It’s like having a potluck luncheon, only without the edibles. Everyone does, however, brings something to the table.
If you don’t already subscribe, check out Bleeding Heartland.
Future Monday Zoom Lunch guests include Ambassador Kenneth Quinn, Ambassador Terry Branstad, Economist reporter Steve Mazie, Mayor Frank Cownie, romance author Leigh Michaels, Tom and Ruth Harkin, and many more through the remainder of August and September.
Proceeds from the paid subscriptions fund scholarships for the Okoboji Writers’ Retreat, on September 19, 20, and 21.
Speaking of Tom and Ruth Harkin, they just wrapped up the Harkin International Disability Employment Summit, held June 7-8 in Belfast, Ireland. This has been a massive undertaking, with over 30 countries represented.
This is a big deal.
We’ll hear about it when they join us on August 8 for our Monday Zoom Lunch. Join the conversation!
