Today and Tomorrow
Our Monday Zoom guest today is
, who writes the Midwest Creative column and is an Iowa Writers’ Collaborative member. This is a regularly scheduled feature of our Potluck column where you, the subscriber, and I converse with an interesting and notable person. I then upload the conversation into a podcast. If you are new here (and we’ve added several new subscribers recently), this is what we do. I guess once a talk show host, always one, and Zoom allows me to conduct a live interview without the hassle and expense of owning a 50,000-watt radio station. And guess what? You don’t have to listen to nonstop commercials during our potluck interviews or hear only guests who spew hate because they get higher ratings. Ha!
Macey studied Journalism and Creative Writing at the University of Iowa. She has been published in The Daily Iowan, College Magazine, Anti-Heroin Chic Magazine, and Witch Craft Magazine. She is a Marketing Coordinator for a DEI and cultural education nonprofit in West Des Moines called CultureALL, where she writes about diversity, inclusion, workplace relationships, and arts and culture.
Why is this young woman from a small town in eastern Iowa introducing us to all kinds of creative artists in our midst that we might not learn about otherwise? Let’s find out together: Today’s Zoom Link. We start at noon central time and end at 1:00 p.m.
EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA
Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 7, I’ve scheduled an extra, very special conversation about what is going on in Gaza and Israel. This will begin at 10:00 a.m.
Corrine Whitlach was the director of Churches for Middle East Peace, based in Washington, D.C., until moving back to her home state of Iowa to be closer to family. We are fortunate to have her back. In her role, she worked with multiple religious organizations and lobbied Congress. She’s traveled extensively in the region we will be talking about.
This topic can generate passion. So far, we have managed not to have these Potluck calls hacked or get out of control, and I’m confident this will be the same. I’ve figured out where the ‘remove’ button is located and will use it if necessary.
You can expect an informed discussion on the call. We have a smart bunch of influential readers here, so come join the discussion.
You are welcome to share the link to this call with individuals you think have an interest, but please do not post it on the general web.
Also, joining us in the conversation is
columnist , who has written recent columns about the current situation in the Middle East and what has led up to where we are today.Garson was once managing editor of The Des Moines Register, and his career with Gannett placed him in leadership positions nationwide. He is now retired and living in Sioux Falls and Okoboji. During the Okobojo Writers’ Retreat, his fourth appearance, he'll be on a Reporters Master Class panel and learn how to dig deep when exploring family history projects. In retirement, he is working with clients on their stories, and is now a regular contributor to the Iowa Writers’ Collaborative. Check out: Second Thoughts.
