The business of people who seem so isolated they have never met a black woman speaks to me, but in a very different way. I am so irritated with this business of deporting people from here based on criminal activity to get it started and convince people that this is a good thing, is simply crude and when people suck up to this no matter what happens and gets over the top crazy with 5 year olds being deported! So, I started by talking to people in Germany and working with a tour group and invited people to come to Iowa. These folks are from NW Germany and many of my hometown people come from this area. First attempt was a little crazy as I had everythng set up on my computer and then found I didn't have a cable to connect with the projector! So with a jump drive with tombstones from local cemeteries with German names was all I had to show! It worked, I got ten people to sign up for a year in advance. THe tour guide said I did well, we will find the rest and come to Monticello next year! My intention was to introduce people to someone who qualified as a "foreigner" who would be a start to changing minds of some people starting with people very much like they were and in some cases were distantly related but they didn't know it! Get them past the foreign language business, get them to talk to each other, and begin to see these people are no different than they were! It was a start, I don't think I was prepared to change the world over night, but a start was what I was looking for. I do believe it is working, but we have gone through some rough times with COVID and such. Mean while I'm investing in a Latino Project locally and have donated $500 so far. Take that DJT! So I'm invested in ESL classes and a project to do health checks for imigrants and we don't care who they are, legal of illegal! So I am hoping it is all working, and I think it is for many, but that is my two cents worth! Thanks! Steve Hanken
This interview with Becky was terrific. So inspiring to hear her story.
