Welcome newcomers! We’ve added a few to our Monday Zoom Lunch ranks in the past week.
Thanks again for supporting the Okoboji Writers’ Retreat scholarship fund by being a paid subscriber to our Potluck Column. It’s like being invited into a home for a dinner party with an intimate group of intelligent, accomplished folks. You, the participants, are as interesting as our featured speakers.
Today’s guest:
Ambassador Terry Branstad was Iowa’s longest-serving governor. Since we only have one hour - and these sessions seem to fly by - I’ll focus on his time as Ambassador in China.
Branstad was there when Covid broke out, anti-Chines rhetoric peaked, and tensions between the world powers escalated.
These sessions are fascinating when you, the participants, engage with our speaker. If you can’t attend but have a question, leave it in the comments below.
We will skip having a Monday Lunch call on July 4 and will resume on July 11 with a former Iowan who covers the U.S. Supreme Court for the Economist magazine. How’s that for timing, eh? Steve Mazie grew up in Des Moines. Shout out to his father, Marvin Mazie, one of our subscribers!
