Our guest today, Monday, December 4, is Jeff Bremer, an associate professor of history at Iowa State University. The title of his recently published book is “A New History of Iowa.”
That’s an impressive, albeit a bit audacious, title. Can there be such a thing as a ‘new’ history of something? We will find out.
Most history books focus on the white majority of the population. Still, Bremer’s book also tells stories of Native people, African Americans, Latinas and Latinos, Asian Americans, the LGBTQ community, and other religious and ethnic groups.
The audience for this book is primarily students, but it could be interesting for all lifelong learners to be a part of the conversation concerning the state’s past.
Many of our Monday Zoom lunch participants have witnessed and/or sat at the table where major decisions have been made throughout the state’s history. Let the discussion begin.
